Tata NYK Shipping Pte Ltd is a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Steel, India and NYK Line, a Japanese shipping major. The company was established to meet the bulk carrier needs of the growing sea trade of Tata companies. The company aims to build a low-cost, modern fleet of ships through timely and selective acquisition of vessels.

Areas of business
Tata NYK is primarily into the business of owning, operating and chartering ships to carry dry bulk cargo mainly for Tata companies and the Indian market. The company has entered into long term contracts with different Tata companies including Tata Steel (India and Europe), Tata Power and Tata Chemicals, with contract periods ranging up to 20 years.

Tata NYK’s vessels are able to trade worldwide on a multitude of trade routes carrying a wide range of cargo for a varied set of customers.

Tata NYK is headquartered in Singapore to take advantage of its strategic location as a shipping hub for networking, availability of shipping finance and ship management, and chartering expertise. The company has a wholly-owned subsidiary in India with two offices in Kolkata and Mumbai.
