Incorporated in 2005, Hooghly Met Coke and Power Company (HMCPC) is a joint venture involving Tata Steel and the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). Tata Steel holds a 98-per cent stake in the company.
Areas of business HMCPC is setting up a greenfield project at Haldia, West Bengal (in eastern India) with a proposed capacity of 1.6 million tonne of metallurgical coke. The project will supply metallurgical coke to the blast furnaces of Tata Steel at Jamshedpur, and for sale in the domestic and international market. Designed to meet stringent environmental norms, the plant’s waste heat will be harnessed for power generation by Tata Power Company.
