Business operations
A subsidiary of Tata Refractories, TRL China's operations are crucial to the overall prospects of the company as it provides an important product — Mag Carbon bricks — used in steel industries worldwide. Located at the Metallurgical and Chemical Industrial Park in Bayuquan, in the Yingkou Province of China, TRL China employs 139 people and is headed by Krishnendu Kumar. Strategy and challenges
In line with TRL’s vision to become a global refractories company with a meaningful presence in key markets across the globe, TRL China aims to significantly enhance the company’s ability to provide its customers with cost-effective products by leveraging the raw material resources available in the region.
Some of the key challenges faced by the company are a steep increase in raw material price and ensuring high-quality raw material, besides the communication hurdles created by linguistic and cultural differences.
Accomplishments and vision
In FY2010, the company reported a turnover of RMB224.68 million and expanded its installed capacity from 54,000MT to 90,000MT with an investment of RMB72.67 million. It was awarded the Best Foreign Invested Company award of Yingkou City by the Liaoning Province Government. TRL China aims to become a high-performance, technology-driven organisation committed to creating value for all its stakeholders.
